A return to Arkansas is in the cards for Gus Malzahn after all.
The Fort Smith native is hanging up his visor following an illustrious 35-year career that started at tiny Hughes High and peaked with an SEC title and national runner-up finish at Auburn in 2013.
He announced his retirement Monday morning.
“I’m grateful for the unbelievable journey God has allowed me to walk,” Malzahn wrote in a statement shared on Twitter. “I am excited to spend more time with my family and focus on what the Lord is calling me to do next.”
It’s the second straight offseason Malzahn has sent a shockwave through the sport.
