In a statement, Baylor reacted strongly Tuesday evening to a report that it was considering a self-imposed bowl ban this season ahead of possible NCAA penalties.
Citing sources, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported that the NCAA had suggested that Baylor impose the penalty and that the school could be facing stiff sanctions for what occurred during the school’s sexual assault scandal under coach Art Briles. In June, the paper had reported that Baylor would not face severe NCAA penalties, again citing sources.
“It is irresponsible to report that Baylor is considering a football bowl ban for the 2018 season when in fact the NCAA investigation into the prior football staff and previous athletics administration remains active and ongoing,” the school said in a statement.
