Baylor-UTSA contest was ugly from the beginning

WACO - To say the least, it was a game filled with mistakes and missed opportunities, particularly in the first half. When penalties weren’t stopping either side, it was a blocked field goal or botched punt. The latter, a muff by UTSA’s Matt Guidry, led to Baylor’s only touchdown of the first half when they got the ball on the 20-yard line. The Roadrunners also had a 47-yard field goal blocked and, later in the first half, elected not to even try one that would have been from inside 40 yards. Both teams had five first-half penalties.

-- In the first quarter, UTSA had a burgeoning drive stall when a third-down pass came up less than a yard short of a first down.
