BYUs quarterback struggles continued in a 17-3 win over Hawaii as the Cougars had 22 passes for 89 yards — the fewest since 70 yards passing in a win against Utah the previous year.
One of the BYU scores was Jaron Dabney's 83-yard punt return.
With starter Kevin Feterik still out, Paul Shoemaker went 7 of 15 for 66 yards while freshman Drew Miller was 3 of 7 for 23 yards.
"It's a struggle at quarterback, and its not a simple solution," said BYU coach LaVell Edwards.
