PROVO — Penalties and other miscues were the story of the first half between the BYU Cougars and Utah Utes Saturday night at LaVell Edwards Stadium, and the Utes are holding on to a 9-0 lead.
The first points of the game came with 6:22 left in the first quarter. BYU's Tanner Mangum threw an interception, which Boobie Hobbs returned to the red zone, but the Utes had to settle for a Matt Gay field goal.
Gay scored again with just over six minutes left in the second frame after a Utah touchdown was called back because of offensive pass interference on Siaosi Wilson.
