The year was 2016 and let’s face it; Manchester City was struggling to keep clean sheets. Recently arrived Pep Guardiola was not a Joe Hart fan and we later found out he was on the verge of being hoofed out on-loan. Claudio Bravo (Barcelona’s number two), his eventual successor, recently purchased from Camp Nou was to have constant catastrophic nightmares throughoput the 2016/17 season (that’s another story!).
Rumours were rife – the Manchester City boss was desperate to find his number-one keeper. Someone who he could trust.
The name on most people’s lips was the incredible Barcelona number one shot-stopper, Marc Ter Stegen.
