Michigan State moves up five spots from last year's coaches poll No. 18 ranking, despite losing both Travis Trice and Branden Dawson. The Spartans are the second highest ranked Big Ten team behind Maryland, who sits at No. 3 behind North Carolina and Kentucky, respectively.
Duke, the reigning national champions, comes in at No. 4, following by Kansas, Virginia and Iowa State.
Other Big Ten notables include Wisconsin (No. 17) and Purdue (No. 24).
Second Thing: Preseason All-Big Ten team was also unveiled.
Representing Michigan State was Denzel Valentine, the only player from head coach Tom Izzo's roster.
