It’s not just because he has the word “Met” in his name that makes New York Mets prospect Brian Metoyer the guy to root for in 2026. All of the circumstances about this 29-year-old lifelong minor leaguer make him a guy you just have to cheer on to make the majors.
Drafted in 2018 in the now non-existent 40th round, Metoyer has logged an incredibly low 126.2 professional innings. Multiple injuries, including Tommy John surgery, have slowed him down.
Others would have given up. He hasn’t quit on the dream just yet. His desire to continue living the dream paid off in 2025 with Metoyer putting together a low-key strong season, propelling him just a tad closer to maybe one day getting to the show.
