Within the first fifteen minutes, RSL had a couple of great looks testimg New England’s keeper early. Unfortunately for te home team and especially Kyle Beckerman who had a great chamce from close range, the keeper passed the tests. New England grabbed the momentum for the next fifteen and RSL held steady to not concede in that chunk of the game. RSL turned the tide again and came up with a few more good chances to score but were unable to put the finishing touch on it and headed to the locker room tied at zero.
Around the fiftieth minute Real had a bit of luck on their side when Kei Kamara had already started celebrating agter he got the ball in the net but the ref blew his whistle after some deliberation and called it back for an apparent foul.
