SMU's best start in program history ended with Sunday's 89-80 loss at Temple. With a chance to potentially crack the Associated Press top five, the Mustangs instead became the last Division I team to lose, dropping to 18-1.
Five reasons why:
_ SMU weathered some close calls against hot-shooting teams during an 18-0 start. The Mustangs lived by the theory that their opponent would eventually stop making "crazy shots."
But on Sunday, they relied too heavily on the percentages. Temple may have entered the game ranked 288th nationally in three-point shooting but SMU's poor perimeter defense basically took the "crazy shot" aspect out of the equation.
