There is more to the Southeastern Conference affiliation than the obligatory "S-E-C" chant.
After Mississippi State stunned UConn on Friday in the Women's Final Four to reach Sunday's championship game, South Carolina coach Dawn Staley made a point to walk by the winning locker room and send counterpart Vic Schaefer a congratulatory text.
The meeting between South Carolina and Mississippi State will be the sixth time that schools from the same conference have played for the women's title. It's the third time for the SEC but the first since 1996.
"I think it says we play women's basketball at a very high level, so our teams are prepared to succeed in the postseason like they have, especially these two teams," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said.
