Tom Herman has been hitting the recruiting trail hard.
The new Texas head coach has made a couple of in-home visits before the dead period and also hosted his first official visitors weekend.
The latter resulted in UT's first commit under Herman as Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C. kicker Josh Rowland pulled the trigger.
Rowland committed to Texas over an offer from UTSA.
The junior college prospect connected on 9-of-12 field goals this season with a long of 44. He also made 32-of-33 extra points.
Texas now has eight verbal commits in its 2017 class.
