National writer: Why SMU could overachieve this season

Some pundits might be sleeping on SMU.

After all, the Mustangs were barred from the NCAA Tournament last season and no longer have Hall of Fame head coach Larry Brown on the bench.

But that doesn't mean SMU is on the downturn. According to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, SMU is one of five college basketball teams that could overachieve this season.

"Larry Brown may no longer be the face of the Mustangs' program, but that doesn't mean SMU is going to roll over moving forward," he wrote. "Tim Jankovich has a pair of all-conference caliber players in Shake Milton and Duke transfer Semi Ojeleye along with several capable role players in Sterling Brown, Ben Moore, and Jarrey Foster.
