SMU powers victory by forcing five ECU turnovers

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- SMU’s defense forced five turnovers -- three interceptions, two fumbles -- to raise its season total to 23 (17 INTs, 6 fumbles). That was the most takeaways since a program-record nine against Houston in 2012.

The Mustangs entered the game tied for sixth nationally with 18 takeaways, and tied for third with 14 interceptions.

-- SMU scored a season-high 28 points off turnovers. Senior cornerback Horace Richardson had two interception returns for touchdowns (70 and 80 yards). Those increased the team’s season total of pick-sixes to four. Jordan Wyatt has the other two.

Richardson became the first SMU player with multiple defensive TDs in a game since Alvin Nnabuife’s 2 fumble returns in 2004.
