UNIVERSITY PARK -- National Signing Day marked the end of a frenetic two-month period for SMU's Sonny Dykes. The Mustangs finished the 2018 recruiting cycle with 18 signees and an exhausted new head coach.
"I'm going to reacquaint myself with Kate," said Dykes about his wife, Kate Golding, who saw little of her husband since his hiring. "I'm going to go find a beach somewhere."
When assessing the SMU roster in December, Dykes made a determination that the team needed to get bigger and older, especially at offensive line and cornerback.
To accomplish that, Dykes went with a strategy that he believes will be an aberration for his recruiting classes: He went after the junior college market, hard.
