BATH, Mich. — University of Toledo junior Barend Botha was eliminated from the NCAA men’s golf championships on Wednesday, finishing tied for 29th on the individual leaderboard in the Bath Regional at Eagle Eye Golf Club.
To advance to the national championship tournament, Botha needed to finish as the best individual not on one of the regional’s top five teams. That honor went to Kansas State’s Luke O’Neill. Botha shot a 3-over 74 in Wednesday’s third and final round to finish at plus-1 for the tournament, eight strokes worse than O’Neill, who finished tied for second.
Botha, a South Africa native, shot a 73 in Round 1 before improving with a 67 in Round 2.
