UNLV has its big man, and Cheickna Dembele’s high school coach said the Rebels are getting a good one.
Dembele, a 6-foot 11-inch center, committed Saturday to play basketball for UNLV.
He also was being recruited by Michigan State and Syracuse among others and had a trip planned to Missouri.
Dembele played last season at Scotland (Pennsylvania) Performance Institute after moving to the United States last year from Mali. He was not immediately available for comment.
“His upside is scary how good he can be,” SPI coach Jareem Dowling said. “He came here as a good Walmart home-cooked meal, and all you have to do is follow the directions.
