Student athletes face more lenient consequences for drug policy violations discovered through UNLV-conducted tests than they would if they failed NCAA tests.
Drug policies among student athletes are inconsistent between schools, with each college determining how it conducts its own testing of performance-enhancing and recreational street drugs and what consequences student athletes may face.
Not only are these policies inconsistent between schools, but are often different from NCAA policies – and are often less strict.
UNLV tests its student athletes for all drugs except steroids and other similar performance-enhancing drugs. That is the NCAA’s responsibility, according to Kyle Wilson, assistant athletics director of sports medicine.
