Xavier baseball routs top-seeded Vandy in NCAA tourney

The wait was worth the wait for Xavier's baseball team.

After weather led to the postponement of Friday's NCAA tournament game against top-seeded Vanderbilt, the Musketeers roared back with a 15-1 rout of the Commodores on Saturday in Nashville.

XU piled on 13 runs in the seventh inning at Hawkins Field, securing a seventh straight win and a 17th victory in the last 19 outings. It marked Xavier's first win over the Commodores since March 2, 1996, and it snapped an eight game losing streak in the series.

Vandy, reeling from the death of pitcher Donny Everett in a drowning accident, allowed a season-most 15 runs.
