Xavier University men's basketball's final preseason tuneup belonged to Edmond Sumner.
Sumner was clean and composed in an otherwise unrefined Musketeers' outing as Xavier beat the visiting Ferris State University Bulldogs of the NCAA's Division II ranks, 80-56 Saturday at Cintas Center.
In game wrought with teaching moments for Xavier, Sumner provided a spark in all facets and proved himself ready for Friday's season opener against Lehigh University. He finished with a game-high 23 points on 8 of 14 shooting.
A Sumner alley-oop jam with under four minutes to play in the first half garnered some of the loudest cheers of the game.
